4/12 - Yankees vs Blue Jays - The Yankees defeated a tough Blue Jays team 4 to 0 with clutch hitting by Michael Miele who had a big double driving in 2 .Derek and Jarod Yalon also had big hits in a hard fought yankees victory.Jarod Yalon pitched 2 solid shut out innings with 4 strike outs and no walks.
4/13 - Yankees vs Mets - The Yankees tied a very talented Mets team 2 to 2 .The Mets got off to a 2 nothing lead.The lead didnt hold up when Michael Miele hit a towering drive off the left field fence cutting the Mets lead to 1. Clutch hitting by Lia Hauser tied the score at 2.Daniel Colondona pitched 2 scorless innings followed by Derek Yalons perfect 6th inning in an exciting 2 to 2 tie .
4/14 - Yankees vs Tigers - The Yankees beat a tough Tigers team 11 to 2 .Michael Miele got things started in the 1st inning with the bases loaded Michael hit a rocket to left field for a double driving in 3 .The yankees played great defense when quick thinking Nicholas buzzitta who was playing centerfield , played a line drive off the fence and threw the base runner out at 2nd base stopping a Tigers rally.Nicholas also did it with the bat with 2 hits and Lia Hauser had 3 big hits.Micael Miele had the game of his life going 3 for 4 with 8 rbis and pitched 2 scorless innings while striking out 6.
4/19 – Orioles vs Yankees - The Yankees and Orioles battled to a 4 to 4 tie. The Orioles got things started in the 1st inning with a towering double by Chris Gordon driving in 2.The Yankees came back in the bottom of the 1st with big hits by Jarod and Derek Yalon followed by a double from none other then Michael Miele who had 2 RBIS. With the score tied at 4, the Yankees had runners on 2nd and 3rd when Michael Miele stepped to the plate and hit a towering fly ball when the sure handed fielder Tyler Viola went back on, and made a beautiful catch saving 2 runs. The orioles were shut down with 2 impressive scoreless innings from Jarod Yalon.The pressure was on Chris Gordon in the bottom of the 5th when the bases were loaded and hot hitting Michael Miele coming to the plate, Chris used his electric stuff striking out Michael on a fastball and striking out Lia to end the inning. Derek Yalon threw 9 pitches in 6th striking out the side continuing Derek’s scoreless inning streak.
4/19 – Mets vs A’s - Great game by both teams. The A's combined for 14 hits and 5 runs Michael Mohr 3 for 3 with 2 rbi , and had 5 strikeouts pitching. Taylor Stepanak 1 for 2 with 1 rbi and 3 strikeouts pitching. Peter Montana 1 for 2 with 1 rbi and Alexis Smith 2 for 4 with 1 rbi. Brendan Ferraro, Brandon McCormick , Nicholas Mazzaro, Devon Danz all went 2 for 3. Great game, keep up the great work coach Stephen Smith
4/24 – Yankees vs A’s - The Yankees defeated a talented As team 8 to 0.The Yankees had a hit parade led by Joseph Zimmerman who had 4 hits and played solid defense. Joseph Pollizatto had his best game of the year with a long single to centerfield while playing great defense. Derek and Jarod Yalon or better known as the BASH brothers each had 3 hits in the Yankees victory. Jarod Yalon hit a long drive off the left field fence for a double driving in Joseph Zimmerman. The twins also did it on the mound pitching 3 shut out innings and giving the Yankees a well earned victory.
4/26 – A’s vs Tigers - Great game by the A's . Trevor Adamo 1 for 3, Nicolas Mazzaro 3 for 3 ,1 rbi, Taylor Stepanek 2 for 2 , 3 rbi , Michael Mohr 2 for 3 , 2 rbi and 6 strikeouts pitching. Josh Matta 1 for 3, Peter Montana 2 for 2 , 2 rbi. Frankie Messina 2 for 2, 1 rbi, and Devon Danz 2 for 2 , 2rbi . Keep up the good work. Coach Steve
4/30 – Red Sox vs Yankees - The 1st place Yankees battled against the hot hitting 1 place Red Sox to a 10 to 10 tie. Daniel Colondona led the charge for the Yankees with 4 big hits and Thomas Foschino had a big a game with 2 hits while playing solid defense.Brandon Dominquez had the big hit for for the Yankees with the Red Sox up by 2 runs and the bases loaded with 2 out in the bottom of the 5th Brandon took a fastball and hit a rocket line drive scoring 2 big runs.The Yankees had game in the bottom of the 6th but Michael Loria shut down the Yankees big bats striking out the hot hitting Derek Yalon to end the game.
5/3 – Mets vs Yankees - The Yankees came out swinging and defeated a solid Mets team 12 to 5.The Yankees got things started in the 1st inning when Michael Miele made his return to the line up after being side lined with a contusion to his heart delivered a bases clearing double. Derek Yalon was back on track with 2 hits .Michael Miele went 3 for 3 with 5 RBIS and Jarod Yalon had a big day at the plate 2 hits. The big hit came in the 6th inning when Brandon Dominquez hit a solid line drive double driving in 2 runs putting the game out of reach.
5/3 – A’s vs Blue Jays - Great game by both teams . The A's played solid defense and made some great plays in the field. Trevor, Nicolas, Taylor, Michael and Devon had 2 hits each. Alexis, Josh, Brendan and Frankie had 1 hit each. Rbis by Trevor Nicholas, Taylor, Devon, Alexis and Josh. Great game guys and gal keep up the good work coach Steve
5/10 – Red Sox vs A’s - incredible game as the A's beat the first place Red Sox with both offense and defense. Player of the game was Nicholas Mazzaro who went 2 for 4 with 4 rbi. In the 5th inning Nicholas hit a long shot over both fences into the juniors field for a three run homerun. Great team effort by Taylor Stepanek 2 for 3 with 2 strikeouts pitching. Michael Mohr 3 for 3 with 6 strikeouts pitching . Devon Danz 2 for 3 1rbi , Alexis Smith 1 for 3 2rbi , Daniel Caggiano 2 for 4 2rbi, Brandon Mccormick 2 for 3, Frankie Messina 2 for 3 1rbi and Peter Montana 1 for 3 1rbi . Keep up the great work guys and girl, that’s 5 wins in a row great job coach Steve.
5/14 – A’s vs Mets - Well like they say it aint over till the last out of the game. The Mets played a great game and were winning 10 -7 in the bottom of the 6th with two outs. The A's rallied with two outs for 4 runs to win the game 11-10. Rally was started by Peter Montana and ended with Nicholas Mazzaro driving in the winning run. It was a well played game by both teams. The A's Nicholas Mazzaro was 3 for 3 with 2 rbi with 4 strikeouts pitching. Trevor Adamo 2 for 3 with 1rbi, Taylor Stepanek 2 for 3 1rbi, Michael Mohr 3 for 3 2rbi, Alexis smith 1 for 3 1rbi, Peter Montana 1 for 3, Daniel Caggiano 1 for 2 1rbi , Brendan Ferraro 2 for 3 2rbi and Brandon Mccormick 2 for 2 1rbi.great game keep up the good work coach Steve.
5/15 – A’s vs Blue Jays - Two days in a row and another game down to the wire with the game tied 6-6 going into the 6th inning. Both teams battled back and forth on the pre farms field. Game winning double was by Josh Matta who drove in two runs in the top of the sixth which ended up being the deciding factor in the game. Great offense and defense by both teams . Nickolas Mazzaro 2 for 2, Trevor Adamo 1 for 2 1rbi, Michael Mohr 2 for 2 2 rbi and 4 strikeouts pitching, Taylor Stepanek 2 for 2 2 rbi and struck out the side in bottom of the sixth, Josh Matta 3 for 3 3 rbi, Alexis Smith 1 for 3, peter Montana, Frankie Messina, Daniel Caggiano, Brendan Ferraro and Brandon Mccormick all went 1 for 2. Just to let you know Josh Matta, Taylor Stepanek and Michael Mohr if we were on the farms field all three of you would have had homeruns over the fence. Great job again keep it up you guys are playing great ball coach Steve.
5/17 – Yankees vs. A’s - The Yankees defeated the 1st place As 8 to 2.The Yankees bats did it again this time it was Derek Yalon who led the way. The Yankees were beating the As 4 to 2 in the bottom of the 4th when Derek Yalon stepped into the batters box with 2 outs and the bases loaded. Derek jumped all over a fastball driving it over the left field fence for a grand slam and giving the Yankees a 8 to 2 lead. Jarod Yalon pitched a scorless 4th and Derek Yalon pitched a scoreless 5th and 6th giving the Yankees a big victory.
FARMS 2008 STANDINGS
************ Season Higlights ***********
The CYA Farms Mets had a spectacular 2008. Besides playing great baseball, the Mets built friendships that will last well beyond the season. The Mets had some outstanding pitching, led by Matthew Goodis and Peter Sullivan. Defensively, Yanni Balasis played productively behind the plate as well as all infield positions. Improving significantly this season was Michael Vicente. Heath Greger, Domenick Marinelli and Ryan Thompson spiced up the team with their dedication, talent, ability, and humor. The Mets relied on Doug Rogers and Anthony Amendolare as their utility players, playing proficiently at any position. Offensively, the Mets were led by All-Stars Sean Cudia, Kyle Kiendle, and Matthew Goodis
